The south of the UK is receiving more funding from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) than the rest of the country, it has been claimed.
Some £2.8bn has been spent by the HCA between 1st December last year and 31st March on redevelopment and social housing.
However, Inside Housing magazine reports that of that total, half - £1.4bn - was spent in London while 15 per cent - £413.7m - was spent in the south east.
This means two thirds of the total investment was spent in either London or the south east, while the north east of England received the smallest amount - £20.7m.
A spokesperson for the HCA told the magazine that the regional splits were not cause for concern as they only covered a quarter of the last financial year, adding that the north east "made far less allocation towards the end of the year than others because they had got their programme fully allocated earlier".
In April, the HCA announced that it would invest £700m into housing construction in the West Midlands over the next two years.
